Day #2

Blog #2 5/10

Day 2 of the senior project was another busy and beautiful day. I got an earlier start than yesterday because I wanted to make sure I got to the dining hall to eat a good healthy breakfast, as one of my goals this week is to keep a consistent diet to see if it affects me mentally. I then headed to the library to get some more work and research done, I also finished and posted my blog for day #1. After reading and watching videos on day #1, I needed a little more direction and so I met with Kara Kidder. We talked about the endless directions I could go with this project but also realized if I don’t narrow it down I might never stop reading and researching. She told me about the biopsychosocial model which looks at the combination of biological, psychological, and social factors. The Venn diagram is used to show the crossover of these factors and illustrates the importance of balance in mental health. The social environment is difficult to change in a person's life and therefore, prioritizing the body and mind is crucial when focusing on your mental health. This has sent me in the direction of the mind-body connection and how that can be improved on an everyday basis. After I did some research and brainstorming about my final product it began to feel overwhelming and so I went on a hike up to the bulkhead. Along the way, I stopped at the proctor cabin and mud pond cabin. It was perfect hiking conditions and it took around 90 minutes and I missed the black flies which is always a bonus. I got back to campus and helped out another student with an interview for their senior project about the Proctor experience. I would say it was another successful day as I moved forward with a clearer picture in mind.
