Day #6

 Blog #6 5/16

After a nice restful weekend, I was ready to get back to work on this sunny Monday. I headed to the library to start the day by getting some more work done. I watched a video about a book that focuses on the mind-body connection and the importance of physical movement in our lives. It was a fascinating video that made me realize a few things about the importance of staying active that I hadn’t seen elsewhere. People often treat exercise like a chore and they create the illusion that it can’t be enjoyable and that it has to be done for physical reasons only. The truth is that physical movement and activities are just as important for your emotional well-being and generally lift your mood directly after. To summarize the science in the video, movement and the sensations it provides to humans neurologically, lift their mood and there is an abundance of research that shows aerobics help improve mood, energy, and ability to connect with others. I also hadn’t realized that pushing yourself to the limit and showing your body what you’re capable of elevates the mental benefits of exercising significantly. In the moments of exhaustion where your body wants to give up and you’re pushing through the pain, you allow your brain to think in a different way with an elevated feeling of self-belief. The physical sensation allows your imagination to flow and think of unrealistic scenarios that you’re capable of, an extreme example would be pretending you're being chased by a lion while on a run and actually becoming more confident from that made-up situation. This video really made me think about everything I’ve learned last week with an additional perspective and it really hit on what I want to focus on with this project. After getting some other work done on a few of the infographics I’m making I went and got some lunch. I then did a bit more work on planning out what I’m actually going to create this week as well as seeing if there’s anything else I want to look into before it’s too late. I was feeling a bit stuck inside after spending most of the day on my computer so I went on a run before practice. I went about 5 miles and I felt so much better after, hopefully, it wasn’t the placebo effect from the video. I then had a busy evening with baseball practice and play rehearsal, but we got to try our costumes on for the first time which was a highlight.
